CHRISTIAN COUNTY BY-GONESMany settlements formerly in Christian County have long since passed away. Some have left physical remnants, while only place names memorialize others. One of those was the town of Abadyl, northeast of Bruner near Stewart Creek. Abadyl Road is all that remains of it, although at the end of WWII one could still do business there; Mrs. Alta Phillips reported that Miss Lucille Stapp had been in charge of the Abadyl store on Monday.(The Abadyl column, from the Christian County Republican Jun 28, 1945) See MoreSee Less

CHRISTIAN COUNTY BY-GONESThe Great Depression brought great hardship to Christian County. Federal relief money, administered through local agencies, funded sewing projects that employed women to make clothing, blankets, towels, and mattresses for the needy. Other programs loaned milk cows to families with children, and federal agencies employed men to build public improvements such as roads, parks, schools, and the former Community Building where the Christian County Museum is now located. For more information on federal relief projects visit https://livingnewdeal.org/.(From the Christian County Republic Sep 27, 1934) See MoreSee Less
